5:08 a.m.

I am sound asleep. The phone rings. It is 5:08 a.m. I answer. It is a recorded message. A cheery voice greets me.

"Good Morning! This is Director of Schools 'Happy Lady'. 'Your' County Schools are closed today due to inclement weather. Have a Wonderful snow day!"

I hung up and returned to bed. Swearing obscenities at this chipper woman who called me to tell me that even though I have a paper to write for class tonight and was counting on children going to school today, and even though Christmas break starts next week and they will have a full two weeks off school, they will be fighting and screaming under my feet ALL DAY LONG.

Thanks.

Oh I can totally relate to that! My husband is a teacher, so next week and the week after I will have the kids and the husband all getting under my feet while I try to work out of my home office. I may have to go to my real office just to get some peace and quiet!

Just found your blog -- love your sense of humor! I'll be back often. :)

You get a call? How fancy is that! Freezing rain here, but school is still on - surprisingly.

So very sorry your productive day just went in the crapper.

Good luck - Em

Our schools got this fancy new phone program a couple years ago. I believe right after the VA Tech shootings. Each school can call with school specific info (like your cookie dough is ready for pickup, or the band concert is postponed), or the school corporation can call with system-wide info. It is pretty nifty- you give them a phone number and the automated system gives you a call with the news. No more relying on your children to give you the pertinent info, which I have found is a really good thing.

I like the call thing- we have that if school is called off during school- like an early dismaissal- but otherwise my kids are watching the local TV channels at 5AM- praying to see their school's name! Yesterday- they were off, thank god- they went back today! Sorry!

There is nothing worse than getting woken up by the phone in the middle of the night.

oh sweet jesus, I feel your pain!! Even though I am the teacher, I'd rather be THERE instead of here with kids who will be crazy!!!!!!

Haha well,
Know that you have friends in the telephone operator circuit,
And I can block some calls for you some time. lol

And it's funny that in Canada, we still have school when it's -40.
I feel a little cheated.
Should have taken grade school in your area.

I LOVE snowdays! But I can surely appreciate why you don't! :) Wish I could take the kids for you (just for a day, mind you!)
